Terence [aka] Publius Terentius Afer (c. 195/185-c. 159? BCE)
In Quem Triplex Edita est P. Antesignani Rapistagnensis Commentatio.

Lyon: Mathiam Bonhome, 1560.

Second edition of Pierre Davantes's (1525-1561) commentary, quarto, title vignette on title (tinted in ink), lacking final blank, bound in contemporary parchment over boards, covering material worn away at bottom corner, front board, split along the top edge of the board, some damage at the endband attachment, top of joint, 7 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.

Davantes, aka Antesignanus, was a scholar and a musician who invented a system of musical notation. Bonhomme printed three volumes of Terenece in 1560, that seem not to be considered a set. They contain different content, are almost never found together, and all use the identical title. This one is considered the third part, but fully independent. as Brunet writes, "Les trois volumes se trouvenet rarement réunis."

Adams T-354; Fabricius I 57; Schweiger III 1061.
